The Shadow Beasts
The Inju or "Shadowbeast" in the English version are a special unit formed by the most valuable elements of the criminal organizations in the world. Under the direct command of the "10 Dons" Every beast has its own code name that derives from the animal which was inspired to form their Nen abilities. These warriors individually accompany the heads of 10 major mafias around the globe in their every move, but their real power is unleashed only when they are reunited, thanks to the fact that any disadvantage of their individual techniques is almost always covered by paragraph strong ability of another member. This group, however, ceased to exist because of the Genei Ryodan, which has wiped out without mercy on the night of 1st of September 1999.
The first four Shadow Beasts: Worm (蚯蚓 Mimizu?); Leech (蛭 Hiru?); Rabid Dog (病犬 Yama Inu?); and Porcupine (豪猪 Yamaarashi?); are killed by Uvogin in the first battle. Before Uvogin defeats them, Rabid Dog paralyzes Uvogin with neurotoxin from his fangs after which Leech infects Uvogin with parasitic leeches. This allows Kurapika to more easily capture him.

The six remaining Shadow Beasts, which includes Owl, fight the Phantom Troupe as they chased Kurapika and the other Nostrade bodyguards with Machi's aid.
