[Association] Meteor City

The Meteor City

Meteor City

Meteor City (流星街, Ryuuseigai) is a junkyard city inhabited by outcasts. People who live there do not exist in any official records, and the existence of the city itself is known to very few people. Not much is known about the city and much information is covered in mystery. The city is rumored to 500 hundred years old, and was believed to have been founded by a dictator, that wanted to separate the human race ( it should be noted that this was only in Manga, not the Anime version). Since than, it's been a dumping ground, for other countries. The city is said to have the most ethic background, and a population that is estimated to 8 - 10 million.

The Tramp Incident

About 10 years ago, a tramp without papers was arrested for murder. When the local law enforcement tried to look for information about the tramp, they found nothing. It was then, that tramp confess that he was from Meteor City, but the police of the country refused to believe him, extracted a confession that he did committed the crime. In the tribunal, the lawyer that was appointed by the court, didn't do anything, and allowed the tramp to be condemned. Three years later, the real murderer, a drug addict, was arrested and his crime brought out. It was than recognized that the tramp was falsely accused. But it was already too late, shortly later, the police, judges, inspectors, witnesses, jurors, and lawyers and a total of 31 people who all to part in false accusation, were assassinated. In one of the assassinated people, a message was found near the corpse's foot, it said: "We accept everything. So don't take anything back". Everyone that were killed in explosion, the assassins where 31 bunch of people that attached a bomb onto themselves, and explode themselves with their victims. It was all because one of their companions was falsely arrested.

The Phantom Troupe

Information Review -The Phamtom troupe

A few years later, the Phantom Troupe was founded in Meteor City. Back then, before the Troupe was founded, the junkyarded city was once close to the mafia community. Because the people of the city had no records of their existence, they were often called upon the mafia to acts of crime. But however it seems that Phantom Troupe had something to do with it going bad. Kurapika even stated that the Phantom Troupe were considered to have been the most abnormally than any others of the city.

[Association] The Phantom Troupe

Genei Ryodan

The Phantom Troupe

The Phantom Troupe (幻影旅団, Genei Ryodan) is the name for a gang of thieves. The Phantom Troupe are A-Class Bounties organization. Most of the members hail from Meteor City. The group consists of a total of 13 members, each with a numbered tattoo of a spider on their body. Those wishing to join the group can do so by killing a member, thereby replacing them. If a vacancy opens due to a member dying of other causes, the leader of the group, Chrollo Lucilfer, is responsible for finding a replacement member. Although they mainly steal and kill, they occasionally do philanthropic work.

The Phantom Troupe origins are mainly from Meteor City, a junkyard city that is inhabited by outcasts. People who live there do not exist in any official records, and the existence of the city itself is known to very few people. Sometime in the past, Chrollo formed the Phantom Troupe with six other Meteor City residents and left the city. The original members of the Troupe are Chrollo, Feitan, Franklin, Machi,Nobunaga, Pakunoda, and Uvogin. Chrollo then added more members later on.

List of the members of the Phantom Troupe

1) Chrollo Lucilfer

The founder and leader of the Phantom Troupe. Very little is known about Chrollo's past except for the fact that he originated from Meteor City (流星街 Ryuuseigai). Meteor City is a junkyard city inhabited by outcasts. People who live there do not exist in any official records, and the existence of the city itself is known to very few people. Sometime in the past, he formed the Phantom Troupe with six other Meteor City residents and left the city. Later, the group was joined by more members, in accordance with Chrollo's idea of a group comprising of exactly 13 members, including himself.

Chrollo Lucilfer is a calm, handsome young man, coming across as intelligent and charismatic. He seems to be a born leader, able to hold the Phantom Troupe together despite the volatile personalities that make up the group, and well versed in strategies. During his time in Yorknew City, he uses his calm presence and communication abilities to assume another personality in order to gain Neon Nostrade's trust.

Chrollo is a quick thinker and very able-bodied. His ability to fend off the attacks of the two most powerful members of the Zoldyck family of assassins at once is proof of his fighting skill and strength. Zeno states that he would undoubtedly defeat Chrollo in a one-versus-one fight, but remarks that it would be a different matter if Chrollo were truly trying to kill him, instead of trying to steal his abilities. His vast book of abilities also gives him great insight into the abilities of others in combat and strategy (such as when he deduced Kurapika having the ability to impose rules on others with his Judgment Chain).
2) Uvogin

Uvogin (ウヴォーギン Uvōgin?, romanized as Uvohgin in japanese version) was one of the original members of the Troupe from the Meteor City. Out of all of the Phantom Troupe, he was the strongest in terms of raw physical power. Uvogin was so strong, direct hits from bullets, sniper bullets, and even anti-tank rockets will do no visible damage to him. Like all of the Troupe, Uvogin never hesitated to kill and particularly enjoyed combat against skilled opponents. Although he preferred to fight alone, Uvogin became stronger when fighting with a partnerbecause he fought better when there was someone else to protect (although he would never admit this). Seeking revenge on Kurapika for capturing him after his battle with the Shadow Beasts, Uvogin tracked Kurapika to the hotel where Neon Nostrade and the rest of her bodyguards were staying. They fought one-on-one in a small canyon on the outskirts of Yorknew City. Kurapika eventually captured Uvogin with his Chain Jail, and questioned him about the location and abilities of the other Phantom Troupe members. Uvogin refused to answer any questions, only telling Kurapika, "Kill me." Finally, Kurapika pierced Uvogin's chest with the Judgement Chain ability, giving Uvogin the condition that he must answer all questions truthfully. Kurapika once again asks Uvogin the location of the other Troupe members, to which Uvogin only smiled and said to Kurapika "Go to hell, you bastard." Kurapika's Judgement Chain pierces Uvogin's heart, instantly killing him. Uvogin is buried in an unmarked grave at the site of their battle. He was formerly the eleventh member of the Troupe. Uvogin is voiced byEiji Takemoto.

3) Pakunoda

Pakunoda (パクノダ?) exudes an air of self-confidence that can be intimidating to others. Pakunoda is fully loyal to Kuroro, and even goes against the Phantom Troupe in order to help him. She was killed by Kurapika's Judgement Chain in the climax of the Phantom Troupe arc by violating the restrictions Kurapika placed upon her. Her ability is to read the memories of people she touches. Her secondary ability allows her to transforms memories into the shape of a bullet which she fires into the heads of her companions from a gun. Pakunoda is one of the original Phantom Troupe from Meteor City. Her physical strength is 11th in the Troupe.  Pakunoda is voiced by Yoshiko Iseki.
4) Shalnark

Member number 9 of the Troupe. From his appearance, Shalnark (シャルナーク Sharunāku?) seems to be a normal boy. However, Shalnark is one of the most intelligent and quick-thinking members in the group—he is adept at using computers, information gathering, and providing the brains behind the brawn. Shalnark is also a licensed Hunter, so he has access to certain information that could be potentially useful in the Phantom Troupe. Shalnark ranks tenth in physical power among the Troupe. Shalnark is voiced by Yasuhiro Takato.
5) Nobunaga Hazama

Nobunaga Hazama (ノブナガ ハザマ?) has the appearance similar to the ronin warriors in Edo period Japan, complete with a long katana that he uses with great finesse and skill. Nobunaga specializes in combining nen with the use of his katana in executing enemies. His best friend is Ubogin, and the two bring out the best in each other during combat. Seeing some of Ubogin's personality in Gon, he expressed interest in having Gon join the Troupe, though Gon adamantly refused. Nobunaga ranks ninth in physical power among the Troupe, and is one of the original members from Meteor City. Nobunaga Hazama is voiced by Takashi Matsuyama. he is also a killer
6) Phinks

Phinks (フィンクス Finkusu?) is a genius when it comes to unarmed combat. Phinks uses his hands in battle, which has been shown to be extremely powerful. He is rather brash and have a tendency to get into conflicts with other people. Phinks is one of the Phantom Troupe members that originated from Meteor City. He first appears in a jogging suit but later changed into an Egyptian suit. Phinks seems to get along best with Feitan, and is almost always seen partnered with him both in and out of combat. In terms of physical strength, Phinks is ranked second among the Troupe members. Phinks is voiced by Yoshiaki Matsumoto. His nen ability is dependent upon how many times he rotates his arm. The more he rotates his arm, the more powerful his attack will be.
7) Feitan

Feitan (フェイタン?) is attired in what one would expect from a bandit—dark clothes partnered with a skullhead scarf that covers his mouth. Feitan seldom speaks, but when he does, it is full of grammatical errors; giving the appearance that he is not speaking in his native tongue. During the Phantom Troupe's fight with Chimera Ants, Feitan reverted back to his native language which was shown with Chinese characters. He is one of the original members hailing from Meteor City. After Feitan's victory over Zazan in Meteor City, he has been granted temporary control over the Phantom Troupe. Feitan is an assassin down to his core, and is quite skilled at his profession. His movement is incredibly fast; Feitan is able to leave afterimages of his body due to his rapid steps. He wields an umbrella that conceals both a sword and a gun that can fire at the metal tip for a surprise attack. Feitan is the fifth strongest in physical power of the Troupe.

He has the nen ability called "Pain Packer" which basically transforms his injuries he has received from his enemy into an attack. The more pain he had received the stronger the type of Pain Packer released. Currently, only "Scorching Sun" has been revealed. Which basically a miniature sun that burns anyone around him disregarding even alies, as shown by rest of the Phantom Troupe fleeing from the scene when he uses this ability. Only Feitan is unaffected by the attack inflicted upon by the type of "Pain Packer" pressumably because of the armor formed by his ability. He is voiced by Meredith Taylor-Parry in the English dub.He is a joker.

8) Franklin

Franklin (フランクリン Furankurin?) is very large, with multiple facial scars. Franklin acts as a care-giver to Shizuku and shows concern for her well-being. He is also composed and respectful, normally breaking up arguments and fights within the organization. He never hesitates to kill; he murders many auction attendees. Franklin ranks fourth in physical power among the Troupe, and he is among the original members hailing from Meteor City.  Franklin is voiced by Yoshinobu Kaneko.. Has the nen ability to project nen bullets from the tip of his fingers.

HunterxHunter Fansite Information Review
9) Machi

Machi (マチ?) seems to be one of the coldest members of the Phantom Troupe. Hisoka seems to have an occasional interest with her, although it is hard to see whether it is genuine, given Hisoka's unpredictability. She is incredibly loyal to Kuroro, and is one of the original Phantom Troupe members from Meteor City. Physically, she is the strongest woman in the Troupe and the sixth strongest overall. Machi is voiced by Noriko Namiki.
10) Shizuku

Shizuku (シズク Shizuku?) is extremely forgetful. If she forgets something, she will never remember it no matter how others may try to remind her. She can be an airhead at times which, along with her unassuming appearance, can cause her opponents to underestimate her combat abilities. Shizuku used her her vacuum "deme-chan" in combat as well as using it to clean the area of the battle. Shizuku is also left-handed, and the twelfth strongest physically out of the 13 members of the Troupe. Shizuku is the eighth member in the Phantom Troupe, a replacement for the last member since the Troupe came together. Shizuku is voiced by Atsuko Bungo.

HunterxHunter Fansite Information Review
11) Koltopi

Very little is known about Koltopi (コルトピ Korutopi?). Exceptionally short in stature, he also has a thick and messy mane of green hair covering his entire head, obscuring everything except for an occasional glimpse of his left eyeball. He is the weakest in the Troupe in terms of raw physical power. In fact, his nen abilities so far suggest that he is not involved in combat at all, but rather theft and subterfuge. Has the nen ability to make perfect copies of everything he touches. Koltopi is voiced by Umi Tenjin.

12) Bonolenov

Bonolenov (ボノレノフ Bonorenofu?) dresses partially in bandages and looks like a mummy. These bandages cover up a mass number of holes throughout his body. During the chimera ant arc, he was seen fighting with the rest of the Phantom Troupe against the chimera ants. Very little is known about his personality and reasons for joining the Troupe, but in the fight with the chimera ants he displays a mocking and confident attitude. His physical power ranks eighth among the Troupe, and he is the thirteenth Troupe member. Bonolenov is a descendant of the Gyudondond, a small wild tribe that was chased out of their lands by development. When males of the Gyudondond tribe reach the age of three, they are circumcised and needles are inserted in various parts of their body. Over time, these needles are replaced with thicker and thicker sticks, and the holes are stabilized with bamboo stalks or stones. Using these holes, Gyudondond males are able to create a variety of sounds. They are called "Bap," the dancing warriors, and fulfill the role of shamans and performers in their tribe. Before combat, they use their bodies to play songs of battle. The Gyudondond believe that the more beautiful a sound that is played, the greater the spirit it can summon.

Story

Story / Plot

Twelve years prior to the start of the story, Ging Freecss left his infant son, Gon, with Gon's aunt Mito on Whale Island. Gon, raised believing both his parents were dead, finds out from Ging's apprentice, Kite, that his father is still alive and has since become an accomplished “Hunter”.

HxH Vol.01
Hunters are licensed, elite members of humanity who are capable of tracking down secret treasure, rare beasts, or even other individuals. Gon leaves his home to follow in his father's footsteps as a Hunter by taking the "Hunter Examination", a series of brutal tests involving skill, survival, and teamwork.

Prior to and during the exam, Gon meets and befriends three of the other applicants: Kurapika, the last remaining member of the Kurta clan who wishes to become a Hunter in order to avenge his slain people; Leorio, a prospective physician who claims to desire to become rich; and Killua Zoldyck, who fled his life as a member of a notorious assassin family. Among many other examinees, Gon continuously encounters Hisoka, a deadly and sadistic magician.

HxH Vol.05

HxH Vol.20 - Hisoka
After the exam and a brief excursion to Killua's home estate, the four protagonists split up, promising to meet up in a place called Yorknew City months later. Kurapika departs to find work and Leorio leaves to attend medical school. Gon and Killua decide to gain both combat experience and money at the "Heavens Arena", a 251-story building where thousands of martial artists compete daily in fighting tournaments. There they meet a kung fu master named Wing, who trains them in utilizing "Nen", a chi-like life energy that can be used to manifest superhuman powers.

The next story arc reunites the main characters for the world's largest auction in the sprawling metropolis Yorknew City. Gon, Killua, and Leorio try different methods to make enough money to buy "Greed Island", an extremely rare and expensive video game with Nen-like properties that may help Gon locate his father.

HxH Vol.26 - Genei Ryodan (Phantom Troupe)

Meanwhile, Kurapica, having mastered a form of Nen himself, has taken a job as bodyguard for a rich client who is attempting to obtain a pair of Kurta eyes.

While in at the auction, Kurapica crosses paths with the Phantom Troupe, a criminal group attempting to steal valuable artifacts throughout the city's many auctions.

The group is led by its founder Kuroro Lucilfer, a powerful Hunter capable of stealing others' Nen abilities and the leader of the group responsible for the slaughtering of the Kurta clan (Kurapika's people).

With the help of his comrades, Kurapica forces Kuroro out of the Phantom Troup and halts the group's activity in Yorknew City.

Finally, Gon and Killua find Greed Island, the seemingly-magical video game that sucks players within. The goal of the game is to collect a number of set cards, although almost everything in the game, from food to money, can be turned into cards. Inside Greed Island Gon and Killua are joined by Biscuit Krueger, a master and experienced teacher of Nen who trains them. With the help of many other players, Gon and Killua clear the game. As part of their reward, they are allowed to take three cards to be used outside the game. Using the card "Accompany", Gon and Killua travel to a player under the username "Nigg", who they believe to be Ging. However, it ends up bringing them to Kite instead.

HxH OVA G.I
Alongside Kite, Gon and Killua briefly work as biological researchers in the country of Kakin. As they investigate a giant insect limb found on the country's shores, the group discovers it came from a man-sized Chimera Ant queen, an insect that devours other creatures and then gives birth to progeny that inherit the characteristics of the different species it has eaten. The queen washes up onto island nation called the Neo-Green Life (N.G.L.) Autonomous Region, inhabited by a neo-luddite culture. She quickly develops a taste for humans and builds a colony in order to conceive both an army of offspring and a Chimera Ant king named Meryem. The Chimera Ants proceed to wipe most of the population out before Gon, Killua, and Kite arrive. The queen dies during labor, and the king and his Royal Guards flee the N.G.L., secretly overthrowing the government of the nearby Republic of East Gorteau soon thereafter.

HxH Neferpetou VS Netero
Under the guise of the former king of the Republic, Meryem initiates the process of forcibly awakening Nen in the civilians of East Gorteau in order to select soldiers to join his own personal army to conquer the world, and convert the remaining inhabitants to foodstock. As Ants formerly under the queen's rule rejoin the king, the Hunter Association mobilizes quickly to stop the oncoming genocide by sending in an extermination team of Hunters to East Gorteau. Looking for a way to restore Kite to his normal state, Gon and Killua join the extermination team in order to find Neferpitou. The confrontation reaches its peak during a battle between the Chimera Ant King and Netero, the chairman of the Hunters Association, and a second meeting between Neferpitou and Gon.

HxH The Zodiacts
After the Chimera Ant incident has been resolved, the Hunter Association immediately begins the process of choosing Netero's replacement as Chairman, while the other Hunters try to have a new chairman elected by a voting system proposed by Gon's father Ging, Killua returns home to ask for his younger brother Alluka to help Gon, who is hospitalized in critical condition after his battle with Neferpitou. However, his family is unwilling to risk losing Alluka or having his dangerous powers used against them, but after evading his older brother Illumi's attempts to intercept him, Killua manages to bring Alluka to Gon's side and have him fully recovered, before sealing his powers completely to ensure his brother can have a normal life. After having a brief reunion with his father, Gon meets Kite once more and becomes relieved that beside still living as an ant, he returned to his former self.

With the burden of his guilt gone, Gon returns to the Hunter Association to finally question his father, only to find that Ging has disappeared, leaving a message to say he would be waiting at the top of the World Tree. Gon and Killua must part ways, and Gon quickly ascends and meets Ging at the peak of the tree. Gon questions Ging about his goals and discovers the true nature of his father's quest. Meanwhile, a man introducing himself as Netero's son, Beyond, declares that he is assembling an expedition to the "Dark Continent," the forbidden, vast area outside of the known world.
